FACTS ABOUT DUBAI FERRY

FACTS

In 2011, the RTA (Road and Transport Agency) introduced the ferry service, as another alternative for public transport commuters. Each boat can hold up to 100 people and has an on-board snack lounge, where a range of drinks and light bites are available for sale.

While it is a scheduled service with a published timetable, it will not operate until 10 passengers per trip are at least present. Boats can also be hired on hourly rental contracts for private use from the RTA.

ROUTES OF FERRY

Currently, three terminals are operating the Dubai Ferry. The initial stations were Al Ghubaiba and Dubai Marina and the Al Mamzar terminal joined the network in late 2014. Al Ghubaiba and Dubai Marina Ferry Services are operating seven days a week, but now frequencies are decreased – sometimes running three times a day.

A quick walk from the same-name metro station (near the creek abra stations) is Al Ghubaiba Terminal, though Marina Terminal is just outside the Marina Mall on the back and the left.

Most travel from each terminal takes approximately 1 hour (round trips, more to visit); the end-to-end travel from one terminal to another takes from 60-90 minutes.

HOW COSTLY THEY ARE?

On the Dubai Ferry, depending upon the class you want to ride, two kinds of tickets are available. Ticket rates for all routes are currently the same.

The price of a seat of “Gold Class” (14 of which are) is 75 dirhams. The Gold Class section is on the front of the boat and provides more spacious and comfortable seats. 50 dirhams will be set back for you with travel tickets to “Silver Class.”

Silver Class is in the boat’s primary body, with 86 seats. It provides mobility and special wheelchair spaces to the outside room on the back of the ferry. Children (under 2) ride with an adult free of charge, and children between 2 and 10 get 50% off the price of adults.

WHERE TO BUY THOSE TICKETS

At the ferry terminal, near the launch pier, you can purchase your Dubai Ferry tickets. Cash or debit/credit card tickets may be paid for. Tickets can only be bought from the point of origin and on departure due to the numerous restrictions that can prevent the ferry from setting sail.

ON HAND INFORMATION

A lightweight flagship brochure on how to use the ferry and a map with traffic and stops – both in the form of a simple pocket guide – was developed by RTA.

If it is your first ferry as a resident or a tourist to the city to get in the water at a cost-effective price, this guide offers an important reference tool for printing out and holding in your pockets.

FOR TOURISTS

The ferry from Dubai is a great opportunity for tourists, as it allows you to relax while sailing through the area. From the sea, the popular 7-star hotel, the Burj al Arab, and the man-made islands that form Palm Jumeirah are the main attractions of Dubai.

Although there are other possibilities, they’re a lot more costly – if you’re on holiday in Dubai, it’s worth taking a ferry ride.

Al Ghubaiba Terminal, the small, traditional and the oldest section of Dubai with wooden water taxis that run along the border stretch of the town, is conveniently located close to the Abras. The Abras lead to Deira, where the original Gold and Spice souks and Dubai Museum can be found.

DO NOT BE CONFUSED

The Dubai Water Taxi is similar in design and uses 11m x 4m catamarans which is much smaller.

The boats have business class seats each with its own LCD and tray table. They have their own LCD screen.

There are multiple exciting activities in Dubai, riding on the ferries is one of them. You can even have the view at the latest Port De La Mer apartments for sale. The soothing view and the excitement while you sail are so relaxing.
